How to Fix Windows 11 Bluetooth Not Connecting After Update

What Causes This?

A Windows 11 update can replace or reset Bluetooth drivers, change power management settings, or restart related services with the wrong configuration. In some cases, the update leaves behind a corrupted driver install, breaks an existing pairing profile, or creates a conflict between the Bluetooth adapter and the connected device. That is why Bluetooth may suddenly stop pairing, disconnect repeatedly, or fail to detect devices after an update.

Common Symptoms

• Bluetooth devices show as paired but will not connect
• Headphones, keyboards, or mice disconnect after a few seconds
• The Bluetooth toggle is missing or keeps turning itself off
• Windows 11 cannot find nearby Bluetooth devices
• Device Manager shows a warning icon on the Bluetooth adapter

How to Fix It Manually

1. Restart Bluetooth and your device

   • Press Windows + I to open Settings
   • Go to Bluetooth & devices
   • Turn Bluetooth off, wait 10 seconds, then turn it back on
   • Restart the Bluetooth device you are trying to connect
   • If it has a pairing button, put it back into pairing mode

2. Remove the device and pair it again

   • Open Settings > Bluetooth & devices
   • Find the problem device, click the three dots next to it, then choose Remove device
   • Click Add device > Bluetooth
   • Select the device from the list and complete pairing again
   • This clears broken pairing data that often appears after updates

3. Run the Windows Bluetooth troubleshooter

   • Open Settings > System > Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooters
   • Find Bluetooth and click Run
   • Follow the prompts and apply any suggested fixes
   • If Windows repairs a service or setting, restart your PC and test the connection again

4. Reinstall or roll back the Bluetooth driver

   • Right-click the Start button and choose Device Manager
   • Expand Bluetooth
   • Right-click your Bluetooth adapter and select Properties
   • Under the Driver tab:
     • Click Roll Back Driver if the option is available
     • If not, click Uninstall Device
   • After uninstalling, restart the PC
   • Windows will reinstall the driver automatically, or you can click Action > Scan for hardware changes in Device Manager

5. Stop Windows from turning off the Bluetooth adapter

   • In Device Manager, right-click the Bluetooth adapter and choose Properties
   • Open the Power Management tab
   • Uncheck Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power
   • Click OK
   • This helps if Bluetooth started disconnecting after the update changed power settings

6. Check for a newer driver and Windows patch

   • Open Settings > Windows Update
   • Click Check for updates
   • Then go to Advanced options > Optional updates
   • Install any available driver updates, especially for Bluetooth, wireless, or chipset devices
   • If your PC maker offers Bluetooth drivers on its support page, install the latest version from there as well

7. Restart Bluetooth services

   • Press Windows + R, type services.msc, and press Enter
   • Find Bluetooth Support Service
   • Right-click it and choose Restart
   • Then click Properties and set Startup type to Automatic
   • Click Apply and OK
