Know the scope

Cleanup you can understand.

A useful maintenance tool should explain its decisions and its limits. Here is what to review before using Kudu on your computer or a customer's machine.

Kudu · Windows 10/11, macOS 12+, Linux · MIT license

Is Kudu safe to use?

Kudu offers supported cleanup targets for review. Inspect paths and exclusions before cleaning. Open source makes the implementation inspectable; it does not guarantee that every deletion or configuration change is right for your machine.

Does Kudu delete passwords or browser history?

Ordinary browser cache cleaning preserves cookies, history, bookmarks, saved passwords, and sessions. Privacy Traces is a separate opt-in activity-cleanup category. Check the selected category instead of assuming all cleanup has the same effect.

Can deleted files be recovered?

Cleanup receipts record outcomes, not backups. Recovery Centre restores supported settings; it does not restore arbitrary deleted files. A restore point is not a backup of personal documents. Keep a separate backup and review Recycle Bin contents before removal.

Does cache cleaning make a computer faster?

Cleaning can recover storage. It does not establish a performance gain or repair every slowdown. Prefetch and compiled-shader resets are optional and can make the next launch slower. Diagnose the original symptom and retest after an approved change.

Is Kudu free?

Core local maintenance is free and MIT licensed, with no desktop account required. Kudu Cloud is an optional paid service. New performance diagnostic recordings and AI analysis require Cloud Pro; live performance monitoring stays free.

Can a repair shop use Kudu?

The MIT license permits commercial use subject to its license terms. Obtain customer permission for the job, keep backups, and agree separately before linking a customer device to Cloud.

What needs a separate decision?

  • Privacy traces, browser credentials, and synced account records are distinct from cache cleanup.
  • Recycle Bin, Downloads, duplicates, driver removal, and uninstall leftovers can contain data or components you need.
  • Previous Windows installations provide rollback data. Never delete all of Windows Installer or WinSxS as ordinary cache.
  • Services, startup settings, registry changes, and system repairs need a specific purpose. They are not a default speed-up checklist.

Local work and network activity

Core cleanup runs locally and does not require Cloud enrollment. Settings, logs, history, and detailed receipts can remain on the machine; portable builds do not promise zero local traces. Reports may contain private paths and device details.

Local-first does not mean the application never uses the network. Depending on the feature and package, update checks, software and security data downloads, and user-requested online features can contact their services. A linked Cloud device sends operational data and can receive remote commands. Review the privacy policy and Cloud connection controls.

Performance AI analysis is a separate consented Pro workflow. Read the data shown before submitting a recording. Do not share raw customer receipts, screenshots, or JSON reports publicly without reviewing them.

Permissions and downloads

Use the official download page or GitHub releases. Check the release and package for your operating system. Some system actions require administrator permission; elevation gives broader access and is not a guarantee that every target should be removed.

Kudu’s malware tools are additional inspection tools, not a replacement for an operating system’s security protection or a professional incident response. Keep your existing protection enabled.
