Windows notifications can stop working when system notification settings are turned off, Focus Assist is blocking alerts, or the app responsible for sending notifications has been disabled. It can also happen if the Windows notification cache gets corrupted, background apps are restricted, or File Explorer and related Windows processes are not responding properly. In some cases, outdated system files or minor performance issues can delay or suppress alerts entirely.
Common Symptoms
- No banner notifications appear for emails, apps, or system alerts
- Notifications are missing from the Notification Center
- Only some apps send notifications while others stay silent
- Sounds play, but no notification pop-up appears
- Notifications worked before and suddenly stopped after an update or cleanup

Make sure notifications are enabled in Windows
- Press Windows + I to open Settings.
- Go to System > Notifications.
- Turn on Notifications.
- Make sure options like Show notification banners and Show notifications in notification center are enabled.
- Scroll down and confirm the specific app you need is allowed to send notifications.
-

- In Settings, go to System > Notifications.
- Check whether Do not disturb is turned on and switch it Off.

- Press Windows + R, type
-
Run system repair commands
- Click Start, type cmd.
- Right-click Command Prompt and choose Run as administrator.
