What Causes This?

Epic Games Launcher usually slows down, crashes, or gets stuck loading because of corrupted cache files, background app conflicts, outdated graphics or Windows components, or network issues that stop it from connecting properly. In some cases, the launcher itself is damaged after a failed update. Low system resources, startup clutter, and unstable GPU drivers can also make the launcher freeze or close unexpectedly.

Common Symptoms

  • Epic Games Launcher takes a long time to open or stays on a blank screen
  • The launcher crashes on startup or closes by itself
  • Store pages, library, or login screen fail to load
  • Downloads are unusually slow or stuck
  • The launcher uses high CPU or memory and becomes unresponsive

How to Fix It Manually

  1. Close Epic Games Launcher completely

    • Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
    • In the Processes tab, find EpicGamesLauncher and any Epic Web Helper processes.
    • Select each one and click End task.
    • Restart the launcher and check if it loads normally.
  2. Clear the Epic Games Launcher cache

    • Press Windows + R, type %localappdata%, and press Enter.
    • Open the EpicGamesLauncher folder.
    • Open Saved.
    • Delete the webcache, webcache_4147, or similar cache folders if they appear.
    • Restart your PC, then open Epic Games Launcher again.
    • This removes corrupted temporary files that often cause slow loading and startup crashes.
  3. Run the launcher as administrator

    • Press Windows + S, type Epic Games Launcher.
    • Right-click it and choose Run as administrator.
    • If that helps, make it permanent:
      1. Right-click the Epic Games Launcher shortcut and select Properties.
      2. Open the Compatibility tab.
      3. Check Run this program as an administrator.
      4. Click Apply, then OK.
  4. Disable fullscreen optimizations and compatibility conflicts

    • Right-click the Epic Games Launcher shortcut and select Open file location.
    • Right-click EpicGamesLauncher.exe, then click Properties.
    • Open the Compatibility tab.
    • Check Disable fullscreen optimizations.
    • If compatibility mode is enabled, uncheck Run this program in compatibility mode for:.
    • Click Apply and OK.
  5. Update Windows and your graphics driver

    • Press Windows + I to open Settings.
    • Go to Windows Update and click Check for updates.
    • Install all pending updates and restart your PC.
    • Then update your GPU driver from NVIDIA App, AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition, or Intel Driver & Support Assistant.
    • Outdated display drivers often cause launcher crashes, black screens, and UI glitches.
  6. Repair or reinstall Epic Games Launcher

    • Press Windows + I and go to Apps > Installed apps.
    • Find Epic Games Launcher, click the three dots, and choose Uninstall.
    • After uninstalling, press Windows + R, type %localappdata%, and delete any leftover EpicGamesLauncher folder.
    • Download the latest installer from Epic’s official site and reinstall it.
    • A clean install fixes damaged program files and broken updates.
  7. Reduce background load and network interference

    • In Task Manager, check for apps using high CPU, memory, or disk and close anything unnecessary.
    • Temporarily disable VPN, third-party antivirus, or firewall tools to test whether they are blocking Epic.
    • Restart your router if the launcher cannot connect or store pages will not load.
    • If downloads are slow, avoid running other launchers or streaming apps at the same time.
