What Is NVIDIA Broadcast?
NVIDIA Broadcast is NVIDIA’s app for AI-powered microphone, speaker and webcam effects on Windows. It can remove background noise and room echo from audio, and it can apply camera features such as background blur, virtual background and auto framing on supported NVIDIA hardware.
It is not a core Windows component and it is not required for your PC to boot. It is also separate from the main NVIDIA graphics driver. If you use its effects in apps like Zoom, Teams, OBS or Discord, those apps may rely on NVIDIA Broadcast being installed and running when you want those effects.
Is It Safe?
Yes, NVIDIA Broadcast is generally safe when it is the real app from NVIDIA Corporation. On its own, it is not malware or a suspicious startup item.
If you want to verify it, check that nvidia broadcast.exe opens from the NVIDIA Broadcast install folder under Program Files, not from a temp folder, Downloads, or your user profile. In Task Manager or File Explorer, you can also check the file properties and confirm the digital signature shows NVIDIA.
If you do not remember installing it, investigate a little before removing it. It may have been installed with other NVIDIA software, but it still should be signed by NVIDIA and stored in a normal program location.
Should I Disable It at Startup?
Usually, yes — if you do not use its effects every time you sign in.
NVIDIA Broadcast does not need to start with Windows for the system to work normally. Disabling it at startup usually just means its AI microphone, speaker or camera features will not be ready until you open the app yourself.
Keep it enabled at startup if you use it daily for calls, streaming, recording or meetings and want its virtual devices and effects available immediately after login. Otherwise, disabling startup is a reasonable way to reduce background apps.
Why Is It Using High CPU or Memory?
NVIDIA Broadcast can use noticeable CPU, memory and GPU resources while its effects are active, especially during video calls, streaming or recording. Real-time noise removal, camera effects and virtual device processing all add overhead.
High usage is more likely when:
- microphone or speaker effects are enabled
- webcam effects such as background blur are active
- multiple apps are trying to use the same virtual audio or camera devices
- the app is left open in the background after a call or stream
If usage seems excessive, close apps that are using Broadcast, turn off effects you do not need, or exit NVIDIA Broadcast and reopen it only when needed.
How to Disable or Remove It
To stop it from launching with Windows, disable its startup entry in Task Manager or your startup manager. That does not uninstall it.
To remove it completely, uninstall NVIDIA Broadcast from Windows installed apps. If you use OBS, Discord, Zoom or similar tools, switch those apps back to your normal microphone, speakers or webcam first so they do not keep pointing to Broadcast virtual devices.
Do not remove your NVIDIA graphics driver just because you do not want NVIDIA Broadcast. They are separate components.
Where Kudu Helps
Kudu can show whether NVIDIA Broadcast has a startup entry and let you disable it without uninstalling the app. You can also use Performance Monitor to see whether nvidia broadcast.exe is using unusual CPU or memory during calls or recording, then end the process if needed.
If you decide to remove it, Kudu can help you review related startup items afterward so you can confirm nothing unnecessary is still launching in the background.
Frequently asked questions
- Do I need NVIDIA Broadcast for my graphics card to work?
- No. NVIDIA Broadcast is an optional app and is not required for the NVIDIA display driver or normal graphics output.
- Will disabling NVIDIA Broadcast at startup break Zoom, Discord or OBS?
- Not usually. Those apps will still open, but NVIDIA Broadcast effects and virtual devices may not work until you launch Broadcast manually.
- Is NVIDIA Broadcast the same as GeForce Experience or the NVIDIA App?
- No. It is a separate NVIDIA application focused on AI audio and camera effects, not the main driver or general NVIDIA management software.
