What Is MyASUS?
MyASUS is ASUS's support and device utility app for Windows PCs and laptops. It is used for things like system diagnostics, support links, device settings, and ASUS-specific features such as update checks or hardware options on supported models.
asusoptimization.exe appears to be part of that ASUS software stack. On an ASUS computer, that is usually normal. It is not a core part of Windows itself.
Is It Safe?
If it is genuinely published by ASUSTeK Computer Inc. and installed on an ASUS PC, it is generally safe. It is vendor software, not malware by default.
Still, you should verify it if anything seems off. In Task Manager, right-click the process and open its file location. Then check the file's Properties and look for a valid digital signature from ASUS. If the file is in an unusual folder, has no signature, or appears on a non-ASUS system without a clear reason, treat that as suspicious and investigate further.
Should I Disable It at Startup?
Usually, yes — if you do not rely on its background features. MyASUS normally does not need to run all the time for Windows to boot or for the PC to function.
Disabling it at startup is typically fine if you only open MyASUS manually when you want to check updates, run diagnostics, or change ASUS-specific settings. The app should still work when launched on demand.
Keep it enabled if you actively use ASUS background functions that depend on it, such as automatic notifications, support reminders, or certain model-specific device features. If you are unsure, disable it first and re-enable it later if you notice something you need stops appearing.
Why Is It Using High CPU or Memory?
Short bursts of activity can happen when MyASUS checks device status, loads modules, or looks for updates. That is more normal just after sign-in or after the app updates.
If usage stays high for several minutes, common causes include a stuck update check, a damaged ASUS component, or a conflict with another ASUS utility. Restarting the app or rebooting Windows may clear it.
If high usage keeps returning, update MyASUS and other ASUS components through normal ASUS or Microsoft Store channels if available on your system. If you do not use it, disabling it at startup is a reasonable test. If the file location or signature looks wrong, scan it rather than assuming it is legitimate.
How to Disable or Remove It
To stop it launching with Windows, disable its startup entry in Task Manager or Settings, or use Kudu's Startup Manager.
If you want to remove it completely, uninstall MyASUS from Windows installed apps. On some ASUS systems, removing vendor utilities can also remove access to certain ASUS-only features, so only uninstall it if you do not need those functions.
Do not delete the executable file by hand. Use normal uninstall methods so related components are removed cleanly.
Where Kudu Helps
Kudu can show whether MyASUS is set to start with Windows and let you disable or remove the startup entry without hunting through system folders. If asusoptimization.exe is using too much CPU or memory, Kudu's Performance Monitor can confirm that and link the process back to its startup item.
If the file looks suspicious, Kudu's Malware Scanner can check for persistence and suspicious patterns. If you decide to remove MyASUS, Kudu can also help clean leftover temporary files from supported app and system caches, but it does not remove deleted files from Recovery Centre.
Frequently asked questions
- Do I need MyASUS for Windows to work?
- No. Windows does not require MyASUS to boot or run normally. It is an ASUS utility, not a core Windows component.
- Will disabling MyASUS at startup break my ASUS laptop?
- Usually no. The app normally still opens when you launch it manually, but some ASUS notifications or background features may stop until you open it again.
- What if asusoptimization.exe is on a non-ASUS PC?
- That is worth checking. Confirm the file location and digital signature, because legitimate ASUS software is most expected on ASUS hardware.

Kudu’s Startup Manager lists Run keys, Startup folder entries, scheduled tasks, Launch Agents, and XDG autostart items in one place. On Windows it also shows each item’s boot time impact.
