What Is ASUS Armoury Crate?

ASUS Armoury Crate is ASUS software used to manage supported laptops, desktops, motherboards and gaming peripherals. Depending on your hardware, it can handle things like performance profiles, RGB lighting, fan settings, device updates and ASUS-specific integrations.

On an ASUS gaming PC, it may be part of the normal software bundle. On a non-ASUS system, or if you do not use ASUS features, it is usually just an optional utility.

Is It Safe?

Usually yes. With the publisher listed as ASUSTeK Computer Inc., Armoury Crate is normally legitimate ASUS software, not malware.

That said, you should still verify the file if anything looks wrong. In Task Manager, right-click the process and open its file location. Then check the file's digital signature in Properties. A valid ASUS signature is a good sign. If the file is in an unusual folder, has no signature, or keeps returning after removal attempts, treat it as suspicious and run a malware scan.

Armoury Crate itself is not a Windows system component. Disabling it will not break Windows, but it can affect ASUS-specific features you rely on.

Should I Disable It at Startup?

For most people: yes, you can disable it at startup if you do not actively use it every session.

Good reasons to keep it starting with Windows:

  • You regularly switch ASUS performance or fan profiles
  • You use ASUS RGB or peripheral controls that need background services
  • Your system depends on ASUS hardware integrations you actually use

Good reasons to disable it:

  • You rarely open it
  • You only use it for occasional updates
  • You want fewer background apps at sign-in

Disabling the startup app usually just stops the interface from loading automatically. Some ASUS services may still run if installed separately, and opening Armoury Crate manually should still work.

Why Is It Using High CPU or Memory?

Armoury Crate can use more resources than expected when it is checking hardware status, loading device modules, scanning for updates, or syncing ASUS components. Resource spikes are more common after login, after waking from sleep, or after an update.

If usage stays high for several minutes, try closing and reopening it, then check whether ASUS update components are stuck. If the app remains heavy all the time, updating or reinstalling it may help. If you do not need its background features, disabling it at startup is a reasonable fix.

Do not end random ASUS services unless you know what they do. Some are tied to lighting, device detection or profile switching.

How to Disable or Remove It

To stop it launching with Windows, disable its startup entry in Task Manager or your startup manager. If it appears as a scheduled task or another ASUS launcher entry, disable that too.

If you want to remove it completely, uninstall Armoury Crate and related ASUS components from Apps in Windows Settings. Be careful not to remove drivers or hardware control components you still need.

If you remove it and later miss a feature like RGB, fan control or ASUS device settings, you can reinstall it from ASUS support.

Where Kudu Helps

Kudu can show whether Armoury Crate is linked to a startup entry and lets you disable that entry without uninstalling the app. In Performance Monitor, you can see whether it is actually using CPU or memory in the background before deciding. If the file location or behavior looks wrong, Kudu's Malware Scanner can help check for suspicious persistence or known threats.

Frequently asked questions

Will disabling ASUS Armoury Crate at startup break my PC?
Usually no. Windows will still work, but some ASUS-specific features such as lighting, profiles or hardware controls may not load until you open the app.
Can I uninstall Armoury Crate completely?
Yes, if you do not use its ASUS features. Just remember that uninstalling it may remove access to ASUS tuning, RGB or update functions.
Why does Armoury Crate come back after I disable one startup item?
It may use more than one startup method, such as another launcher entry, a scheduled task or background service. Check all ASUS-related startup items before assuming it ignored your change.
