Microsoft Store keeps a local cache to speed up app downloads, updates, and page loading. When that cache becomes corrupted, outdated, or overloaded with temporary data, the Store can start misbehaving. This often happens after interrupted updates, network hiccups, account sync problems, or general Windows system clutter.
Common Symptoms
- Microsoft Store won’t open or closes immediately
- App downloads or updates stay stuck on pending
- You see error messages when installing apps
- Store pages load slowly or appear blank
- Previously fixed Store issues keep coming back
How to Fix It Manually
-
Clear the Store cache with WSReset
- Press Windows key + R to open the Run box.
- Type wsreset.exe and press Enter.
- A blank Command Prompt window may appear for a few seconds.
- Wait for it to close on its own and for Microsoft Store to reopen automatically.
-
Restart your PC
- Click Start > Power > Restart.
- After Windows loads again, open Microsoft Store and check if downloads, updates, or app pages work normally.
-
Repair or reset Microsoft Store in Settings
- Press Windows key + I to open Settings.
- Go to Apps > Installed apps.
- Find Microsoft Store, click the three-dot menu, then select Advanced options.
- First click Repair.
- If that doesn’t help, go back and click Reset.
- Open the Store again and sign in if needed.
-
Run the Windows Store Apps troubleshooter
- Open Settings with Windows key + I.
- Go to System > Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooters.
- Find Windows Store Apps and click Run.
- Follow the prompts and apply any recommended fixes.
-
Check date, time, and region settings
- In Settings, go to Time & language > Date & time.
- Turn on Set time automatically and Set time zone automatically.
- Then go to Time & language > Language & region and confirm your region is correct.
- Incorrect time or region settings can stop Store services from syncing properly.
-
Sign out and back into Microsoft Store
- Open Microsoft Store.
- Click your profile icon in the top-right corner.
- Choose Sign out, then close the Store.
- Reopen it and sign back in with your Microsoft account.
-
Check for Windows updates
- Open Settings > Windows Update.
- Click Check for updates.
- Install any pending updates, then restart your PC.
- Store problems are sometimes caused by outdated Windows components.
