What Causes This?

Microsoft Store on Windows 11 usually stops loading or updating when its cache is corrupted, required services are stuck, or your Microsoft account session is out of sync. It can also happen after a broken Windows update, network filtering, incorrect date and time settings, or damaged system files. In some cases, too much temporary junk on the PC can interfere with app services and background update tasks.

Common Symptoms

  • Microsoft Store opens to a blank screen or keeps loading forever
  • Apps will not download, install, or update
  • Error messages appear when you click Get updates
  • Store closes immediately after opening
  • Downloads stay stuck on Pending or Starting download

How to Fix It Manually

  1. Check your internet connection and time settings

    • Make sure your PC is online and websites load normally.
    • Press Windows + I to open Settings.
    • Go to Time & language > Date & time.
    • Turn on Set time automatically and Set time zone automatically.
    • Restart Microsoft Store and test again.
  2. Sign out of Microsoft Store and sign back in

    • Open Microsoft Store.
    • Click your profile icon in the top-right corner.
    • Choose Sign out.
    • Close the Store, reopen it, then sign back in with your Microsoft account.
    • Try downloading or updating an app.
  3. Clear the Microsoft Store cache

    • Press Windows + R to open Run.
    • Type wsreset.exe and press Enter.
    • A blank Command Prompt window will appear for a moment, then Microsoft Store should reopen automatically.
    • If it does not reopen, launch it manually from the Start menu and check if updates work.
  4. Repair or reset the Microsoft Store app

    • Press Windows + I to open Settings.
    • Go to Apps > Installed apps.
    • Find Microsoft Store, click the three dots, then choose Advanced options.
    • First click Repair.
    • If that does not help, return to the same screen and click Reset.
    • Open Microsoft Store again and test downloads.
  5. Run the Windows Store Apps troubleshooter

    • Open Settings with Windows + I.
    • Go to System > Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooters.
    • Find Windows Store Apps and click Run.
    • Follow the prompts and apply any fixes Windows suggests.
  6. Restart update-related services

    • Press Windows + R, type services.msc, and press Enter.
    • Find Microsoft Store Install Service and Windows Update.
    • For each service:
      1. Double-click it.
      2. If the service is stopped, click Start.
      3. If it is running, click Stop, then Start again.
      4. Make sure Startup type is not set to Disabled.
    • Close Services and test the Store again.
  7. Repair Windows system files

    • Right-click Start and choose Terminal (Admin) or Windows PowerShell (Admin).
    • Run these commands one at a time:
      1. sfc /scannow
      2. DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
    • Wait for both scans to finish, then restart your PC.
    • Open Microsoft Store and try updating apps again.
