WSL Cleaner
WSL Cleaner uses a Chromium-based web runtime that stores HTTP disk cache entries in Cache_Data to speed up loading its interface, bundled assets, and repeated API or local web requests. Over time that cache can accumulate expired response bodies, stale headers, and partial downloads that no longer match the current app build, leading to outdated UI resources or repeated reload issues. Kudu removes only Chromium HTTP cache files older than one day from Cache_Data, while leaving settings, sessions, databases, and user content untouched.
Why clean WSL Cleaner?
- Expired HTML, JavaScript, or CSS responses in the Chromium HTTP cache can make WSL Cleaner load an older interface after an update, showing missing buttons or layout glitches until fresh files are downloaded
- Partially written cache entries from an interrupted update or sudden shutdown can cause a white window, endless spinner, or panels that never finish rendering
- Stale cached API responses and headers can leave storage totals, scan results, or cleanup suggestions out of date, so the app appears not to reflect recent changes until the cache is refreshed
- When Cache_Data grows with old response bodies and duplicate assets, WSL Cleaner can take longer to open because the embedded browser has more disk cache metadata to scan before rebuilding hot entries
- Corrupted compressed assets in the Chromium cache can trigger broken icons, missing styles, or text-only screens even though the app itself is still installed correctly
- Network state changes such as proxy, DNS, or local service endpoint updates may not be reflected cleanly if old cached responses are reused, leading to repeated load failures or content that only appears after a hard refresh
