Telegram
Telegram Desktop keeps a local disk cache under tdata for media and interface assets so chats open quickly without re-downloading everything from Telegram's servers. That cache includes cached photos, videos, documents, stickers, thumbnails, and emoji asset files stored in user_data and emoji, which can grow large or become inconsistent after app updates or interrupted downloads. Kudu removes those cached media and emoji files while leaving your account, message history, contacts, and settings intact.
Why clean Telegram?
- An oversized media cache in tdata/user_data consumes several gigabytes over time, and the clearest symptom is Telegram taking up far more disk space than your visible downloads folder suggests
- Interrupted or partial media downloads leave stale cached copies behind, which can show up as photos or videos that refuse to open correctly until Telegram fetches them again
- Outdated cached thumbnails and sticker assets can make chat lists and media previews display the wrong preview, a blurred image, or an empty placeholder
- Corrupted emoji files in tdata/emoji can cause missing emoji, blank reaction pickers, or squares where custom emoji and animated emoji should render
- Cache entries carried across Telegram Desktop updates can trigger a slow first open of heavy chats as the app revalidates and rebuilds local media indexes
- Large accumulated cache folders increase disk scanning and backup time, which users often notice as longer antivirus scans or slower cloud backup of the home profile
- Removing stale local copies forces Telegram to download fresh assets from the service, which often fixes persistent media display glitches without touching chats or login data
