LibreOffice
Document previews, extension thumbnails, icon theme bitmaps, fontconfig caches, and temporary recovery data accumulate as LibreOffice renders files, scans installed extensions, and builds its user interface. Those cache files help Writer, Calc, Impress, and the Start Center open faster, but they can become stale after profile changes, extension updates, icon theme switches, or font changes. Kudu removes LibreOffice's disposable cached data from its cache locations without touching documents, templates, user settings, saved passwords, or account information.
Why clean LibreOffice?
- Corrupted Start Center preview thumbnails make recent documents show blank or outdated previews even though the files themselves still open normally
- Stale extension thumbnails and extension metadata cache can leave removed or updated extensions showing the wrong icon or description in Extension Manager
- Old icon theme bitmap caches after a theme or display-scale change can cause mismatched toolbar icons, blurry symbols, or missing interface graphics
- Outdated fontconfig cache data after installing or removing fonts can make documents open with unexpected font substitution, missing glyphs, or delayed text layout
- Leftover temporary recovery files from an abnormal exit can trigger repeated document recovery prompts or make LibreOffice seem like it did not close cleanly
- Cache growth from repeated preview generation and extension scanning can waste hundreds of megabytes and make profile folders unusually large on small SSDs
- SQLite cache databases can become page-fragmented over time; VACUUM rewrites the database to compact free pages without deleting rows, which can reduce disk usage and smooth thumbnail lookups
