Granola Performance Caches
Granola stores several Chromium and graphics performance caches under its Windows profile to speed up startup and rendering. These include Electron V8 code cache files in Code Cache, GPU process data in GPUCache, and Dawn shader and pipeline caches in DawnGraphiteCache and DawnWebGPUCache that help reuse compiled WebGPU and graphics state between launches. Kudu removes only these rebuildable performance caches, not your Granola data, settings, account details, or saved content.
Why clean Granola Performance Caches?
- Invalidated V8 bytecode after a Granola update can leave the Code Cache out of sync, which shows up as an unusually slow first launch, delayed window paint, or UI elements appearing in stages
- A graphics driver update can make old GPUCache entries unusable, causing flickering, black panels, or a blank window until Chromium rebuilds the cache for the new driver
- Stale DawnGraphiteCache shader blobs can conflict with changed rendering paths, leading to choppy scrolling, brief freezes when views open, or interface animations that stutter
- Outdated DawnWebGPUCache pipeline data may trigger rendering glitches in hardware-accelerated surfaces, such as missing text, corrupted icons, or controls that redraw incorrectly
- Oversized performance caches can accumulate after many Granola updates and sessions, wasting disk space and making the app spend longer validating old cache entries before becoming responsive
- Corrupted cache files in Granola's Electron runtime can cause repeated GPU process restarts, which users notice as flashing content, delayed input response, or the app opening to a partially rendered screen
