Firefox Crash History
Firefox stores a local history of submitted crash reports and telemetry under Crash Reports/submitted, plus event payloads in the events and glean folders after a crash or diagnostic upload. These files include submission receipts, pending or archived telemetry event records, and Glean measurement data that help Mozilla correlate crashes and browser behavior, but they are not required for your bookmarks, passwords, tabs, or crash-reporter preferences. Kudu removes older submitted crash history and telemetry records while preserving Firefox’s crash-reporting settings.
Why clean Firefox Crash History?
- Months of accumulated submitted report receipts and telemetry event files can quietly consume space in the Firefox profile, which users usually notice only when AppData grows larger than expected
- Old crash-history entries clutter local diagnostics, making it harder to tell which crashes are recent when you inspect the Crash Reports folder after troubleshooting a new browser failure
- Retained Glean measurement files and event logs preserve historical diagnostic metadata long after it is useful, so cleaning them reduces leftover local crash and usage traces without affecting saved logins or browsing data
- Corrupted or partial telemetry event files from an interrupted write can leave behind unreadable diagnostic records, which may show up as submission history that no longer matches recent crash activity
- Repeated browser instability can generate many submitted crash markers in a short time, and the visible symptom is a Crash Reports folder that keeps growing even after the underlying crash is fixed
- If Firefox has been used across many versions, old submitted crash metadata can remain long after those builds are gone, leaving stale support artifacts that no longer help with current troubleshooting
