Firefox Crash History
Firefox records crash-report history under Crash Reports using submitted report receipts, telemetry event files, and Glean metric pings so the browser can track which crashes were sent and queue diagnostic data for Mozilla. Those files are generated after crashes, startup failures, and routine telemetry collection, and they can accumulate long after the reports are no longer useful locally. Kudu removes older submitted crash-report records and old events and Glean telemetry files while leaving Firefox itself, your profile data, and crash-reporter preferences untouched.
Why clean Firefox Crash History?
- Years of submitted crash IDs and telemetry receipts build up in AppData and waste space with no benefit once the reports have already been sent, which shows up as a surprisingly large Crash Reports folder.
- Old event and Glean files can leave Firefox's crash-report lists cluttered with outdated entries, making it harder to review recent failures when you open about:crashes.
- After a period of repeated crashes, the submitted history can grow quickly and bury the most relevant report timestamps, so recent troubleshooting is harder to follow.
- Stale locally queued telemetry artifacts can keep Windows backup and roaming-profile jobs copying unnecessary small files, which users notice as slower sign-in or profile sync on managed PCs.
- Large collections of historical crash-report metadata increase file enumeration work in the Crash Reports folders, which can show up as sluggish folder opening in Explorer or longer scans by antivirus tools.
- Cleaning old receipts and telemetry records reduces leftover diagnostic traces on shared or repurposed PCs without affecting saved passwords, bookmarks, extensions, or crash-reporter settings.
