AMD Installer Files
AMD Software: Adrenalin and AMD chipset packages unpack large temporary installer payloads to the AMD folder on the system drive before setup runs. That folder typically holds extracted driver CAB/MSI contents, InstallManager working files, chipset component packages, logs, and staging data used only during installation, while the actual installed display and chipset drivers live elsewhere in Windows. Kudu removes older extracted installer files from the AMD folder while keeping recent extractions, without touching the active drivers, user settings, accounts, or saved passwords.
Why clean AMD Installer Files?
- Repeated Adrenalin and chipset updates leave behind full extracted installer trees, so the AMD folder keeps growing and users notice tens of gigabytes disappearing from the system drive
- Old staging payloads are not used after installation, but they clutter searches for the current package and make it harder to tell which driver version was actually just downloaded
- Low free space caused by accumulated AMD extraction folders can block a future driver update, with the installer failing partway or warning that there is not enough disk space
- Large leftover setup archives and logs in C:\AMD can lengthen antivirus scans and backup jobs, which users notice as slower scans of the system drive
- Keeping many obsolete installer builds on the boot drive increases SSD wear during indexing, deduplication, or file inventory tools, and users see maintenance tasks spend time on files that are no longer needed
