Adobe Camera Raw Cache

Adobe Camera Raw stores a decoded image cache on disk so Photoshop, Lightroom, and Bridge can reopen raw photos without reprocessing the original sensor data every time. Those Cache and Cache2 folders hold rendered preview tiles, partially decoded raw data, and other reusable processing artifacts that speed up browsing, zooming, and switching between images. Kudu removes only these temporary Camera Raw cache files so stale or oversized cache data can be rebuilt on demand, without touching catalogs, edits, presets, accounts, or the original photos.

Why clean Adobe Camera Raw Cache?

  • Corrupted rendered preview tiles can make thumbnails or loupe previews show the wrong image, black areas, or obvious visual glitches until Camera Raw regenerates them
  • An oversized Camera Raw disk cache can consume many gigabytes and leave Windows or macOS low on free space, which users notice as export slowdowns and less room for active projects
  • Stale decoded data after Camera Raw or host-app updates can cause a raw file to open slowly the first time, show inconsistent previews, or briefly display an older render before refreshing
  • Cache index mismatches can make Bridge, Lightroom, or Photoshop pause while browsing folders, with repeated delays when moving between recently edited raw files
  • Preview artifacts cached from earlier processing settings can persist as blurry zoomed-in views or mismatched sharpness until the image is re-decoded from the original raw file
  • A damaged cache can trigger repeated re-rendering of the same photos, which shows up as fans spinning, heavy disk activity, and slower culling even when reopening images you viewed recently
