What Causes This?

Browser cache stores copies of website files like images, scripts, and page data so sites load faster the next time you visit them. Over time, that cache can grow large, become outdated, or get corrupted, which can cause websites to load incorrectly, use extra disk space, or make browsing feel slow. If you use multiple browsers, each one keeps its own cache, so the problem can build up faster than expected.

Common Symptoms

  • Websites load slowly or display old content
  • Pages look broken, missing images, or fail to update
  • Browser storage usage keeps growing
  • You see loading errors on sites that normally work
  • Browsing feels sluggish even after restarting the browser

How to Fix It Manually

  1. Close extra browser tabs and save your work

    • Before clearing cache, save anything important in open tabs.
    • Some websites may sign you out or reload after cleanup.
  2. Clear cache in Google Chrome

    • Open Chrome.
    • Press Ctrl+Shift+Delete to open Clear browsing data.
    • Set Time range to All time.
    • Check Cached images and files.
    • You can leave Browsing history and Cookies and other site data unchecked if you only want to remove cache.
    • Click Clear data.
  3. Clear cache in Microsoft Edge

    • Open Edge.
    • Press Ctrl+Shift+Delete.
    • In Time range, choose All time.
    • Check Cached images and files.
    • Uncheck other items if you do not want to remove them.
    • Click Clear now.
  4. Clear cache in Mozilla Firefox

    • Open Firefox.
    • Press Ctrl+Shift+Delete.
    • Set Time range to clear to Everything.
    • Check Temporary cached files and pages.
    • Click Clear.
  5. Clear cache in Opera or Brave

    • Open the browser.
    • Press Ctrl+Shift+Delete.
    • Choose All time if available.
    • Select Cached images and files.
    • Confirm the cleanup.
  6. Restart the browser and test the problem site

    • Fully close the browser, then reopen it.
    • Visit the website that was acting up.
    • If the issue continues, press Ctrl+F5 on the page to force a fresh reload.
  7. Check Windows storage if you need to free up space

    • Press Windows+I to open Settings.
    • Go to System > Storage.
    • Review temporary files and overall disk usage.
    • If your drive is nearly full, browser cache may be only part of the problem.
  8. Repeat for each browser you use

    • Clearing Chrome does not clear Edge, Firefox, or other browsers.
    • If you switch between browsers, clean each one separately.
