Dual-channel RAM only works when memory modules are installed in the correct motherboard slots and are matched closely enough for the system to pair them properly. If your sticks are in the wrong slots, mixed in size or speed, or one module is running with unstable BIOS settings, Windows may still boot but your PC can fall back to single-channel mode. In games, that reduces memory bandwidth, which can hurt minimum FPS, cause stutter, and make frame times less consistent.

How to Fix It Manually

Check whether Windows is seeing your RAM correctly
- Open Task Manager with Ctrl+Shift+Esc.
- Click Performance > Memory.
- Check the total installed RAM, current speed, and number of slots used.
- If the amount looks wrong, one stick may not be seated properly or may not be detected.

Power off the PC and verify the RAM is installed in the correct slots
- Shut down Windows completely.
- Turn off the power supply and unplug the PC.
- Open the case and look at the motherboard RAM slots.
- On most boards with four slots, dual-channel works best with sticks in A2 and B2 (often the 2nd and 4th slots from the CPU), but confirm this in your motherboard manual.
- Reseat both modules firmly until the retention clips click into place.

Make sure the RAM sticks are a proper match
- Use two modules with the same capacity, speed, and timings whenever possible, such as 2x8GB or 2x16GB from the same kit.
- Avoid mixing a fast stick with a slower one, or combining different capacities unless your motherboard explicitly supports it well.
- If you recently upgraded, test with only the matched pair installed.

Enable the correct memory profile in BIOS/UEFI
- Restart the PC and enter BIOS/UEFI by pressing Delete, F2, or the key shown during startup.
- Look for a setting named XMP, EXPO, or DOCP.
- Enable the profile that matches your RAM’s rated speed.
- Save changes and reboot.
- If the system becomes unstable, return to BIOS and try the default profile or a lower speed.

Confirm dual-channel mode is active
- Re-enter BIOS/UEFI and check the memory information screen. Many boards explicitly show Channel Mode: Dual.
- If your BIOS does not show it clearly, use your motherboard utility or a trusted hardware info tool in Windows to confirm the channel configuration.
- If it still shows single-channel, swap the modules, test one stick at a time, or update the BIOS.

Reduce Windows-side bottlenecks after the hardware is correct
- Open Settings > Apps > Startup and disable unnecessary startup apps.
- Open Settings > System > Power & battery and select the best available performance mode.
- Reboot and test your games again, paying attention to minimum FPS and stutter rather than average FPS alone.
