Recycle Bin contains files that may still be recoverable. Emptying it permanently removes that recovery route; review the contents first.
Review and Clean Manually
-
Open Recycle Bin and inspect the original locations, sizes, and deletion dates.
-
Restore any files you need before proceeding. Confirm backups for important documents.
-
Delete only reviewed items, or empty the bin after confirming everything can go. Do not assume old backups or large files are unwanted.
-
Review Storage Sense’s bin retention policy separately and agree on any automatic deletion interval.
-
Recheck actual free space and note which recovery option was removed.
Where Kudu Helps
Kudu lists Recycle Bin as a separate cleanup category. Review it explicitly before selecting it; --all includes it, so use narrower CLI categories when the bin is outside the job’s scope.
Open Clean up > System Cleaner and run Scan. Review the relevant category and expand its results to inspect the paths. Set exclusions for anything you need to keep, then check the full selected total before Clean. Results search filters the view; it does not erase selections elsewhere.
After cleaning, check the summary and Activity > Cleanup receipts for removed, skipped, or failed items. A receipt is an outcome record, not a backup. Recovery Centre restores supported settings, not deleted files. Compare actual disk free space and test the original symptom; cache removal alone is not a promise of better performance.
