What Causes This?

Microsoft Teams usually gets stuck on the loading screen because its local cache files are corrupted or out of date. It can also happen when a sign-in token is broken, Teams did not close properly, or another background Microsoft process is hanging. In some cases, outdated app files, network filtering, or Windows account issues can stop Teams from finishing startup.

Common Symptoms

  • Teams opens but stays on a blank, white, purple, or loading screen
  • The app shows the Teams logo and never reaches your chats or calendar
  • Teams keeps trying to sign in but does not finish loading
  • Closing and reopening Teams does not fix the issue
  • Teams works in the browser, but the desktop app does not

How to Fix It Manually

  1. Fully close Teams and related background processes

    • Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
    • In the Processes tab, look for Microsoft Teams, Teams, ms-teams.exe, or Microsoft Edge WebView2.
    • Select each related process and click End task.
    • Try opening Teams again. If it still hangs, continue below.
  2. Clear the Teams cache

    • Press Windows + R to open Run.
    • Type:
      %appdata%\Microsoft\Teams
      and press Enter.
    • If that folder opens, delete the contents of these folders if they exist:
      • Application Cache\Cache
      • blob_storage
      • Cache
      • databases
      • GPUCache
      • IndexedDB
      • Local Storage
      • tmp
    • Do not worry—this removes temporary files, not your chats or account.
    • Restart Teams.
  3. Clear the new Teams cache if you are using the newer app

    • Press Windows + R, type:
      %LocalAppData%\Packages\MSTeams_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache
      then press Enter.
    • Delete the files and folders inside LocalCache if present.
    • If that path does not exist, skip this step.
    • Open Teams again and check if it loads.
  4. Sign out of Teams and reconnect your Microsoft account

    • If Teams opens partially, click your profile picture in the top-right and choose Sign out.
    • Restart your PC, then sign back in.
    • If you cannot reach the sign-out option, open Settings with Windows + I, go to Accounts > Email & accounts, and remove any old or unused Work or school account entries that may be conflicting.
    • Reopen Teams and sign in with the correct account.
  5. Repair or reset Teams in Windows

    • Open Settings with Windows + I.
    • Go to Apps > Installed apps.
    • Find Microsoft Teams, click the three dots, then choose Advanced options.
    • Click Repair first.
    • If Teams still gets stuck, return to the same screen and click Reset.
    • Launch Teams again.
  6. Reinstall Teams if nothing else works

    • Go to Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
    • Uninstall Microsoft Teams.
    • Also uninstall Teams Machine-Wide Installer if it appears.
    • Restart your PC.
    • Download and install the latest version of Teams from Microsoft, then sign in again.
