How to Fix It Manually

Make sure the Windows Update service is enabled
- Press Windows + R, type services.msc, then press Enter.
- In the Services window, find Windows Update.
- Double-click it and set Startup type to Manual or Automatic.
- If Service status shows Stopped, click Start.
- Click Apply, then OK.

Check related update services
- In the same Services window, locate these services:
- Background Intelligent Transfer Service
- Cryptographic Services
- Windows Defender Firewall
- Open each one and make sure the Startup type is not set to Disabled.
- Start the service if it is stopped.
- Click Apply and OK after each change.
- In the same Services window, locate these services:

Run the Windows Update troubleshooter
- Press Windows + I to open Settings.
- Go to System > Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooters.
- Find Windows Update and click Run.
- Let Windows detect and apply any recommended fixes.
- Restart your PC when it finishes.

Clear the Windows Update cache
- Press Windows + R, type services.msc, and press Enter.
- Right-click Windows Update and choose Stop.
- Open File Explorer and go to: C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution
- Delete the contents of the Download folder. If some files refuse to delete, restart and try again.
- Go back to Services, right-click Windows Update, and choose Start.

- Open Settings > Windows Update.
- Make sure updates are not paused.
- If you see Resume updates, click it.
- Try Check for updates again.

- Right-click the Start button and choose Terminal (Admin) or Command Prompt (Admin).
- Run this command:
sfc /scannow - After it finishes, run:
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth - Restart your PC and try Windows Update again.
